the pledge

written august 2026

this site exists because fanfiction — our stories, our grief, our hope — should never be lost to silence. but the archive is not ours to take. this is how we honor that line.

what we hold

this site never holds fic text. the words stay with the archives that keep them — AO3, Fanfiction.net, and the others built by our own community. here's what we do hold:

  • catalog facts — title, author, fandom, tags, word count, dates. these are the metadata that help you recognize a story.
  • short quotes from readers — always bounded: ≤240 characters per passage, ≤1,200 per work total, truncated before this site ever sees it. attribution included.
  • the ledger — an append-only, hash-chained record of everything: claims, seals, suppressions, destructions. it's how we prove we're telling the truth about what we do.

the crawl policy

we crawl with politeness, not urgency. every request respects the platform's rate limits and robots.txt. we never force a page closed to logged-in readers. when an author deletes their work, it's a tombstone here, not a copy. when an author locks it, we honor that too. seals and suppressions are absolute and auditable through the ledger — no silent deletions, no questions asked.

no commerce, ever

nothing on this site is for sale. no ads, no affiliate links, no "book bridges," no data sales. the only money you'll see here is a quiet donations link to cover the server costs — about a bookshelf a month — never adjacent to the emotional surfaces, always disclosed with real numbers. outbound links are the most prominent interaction here for a reason: we're happy to send you to the library.

your privacy

one cookie ever: the session cookie, set only when you log in. cookieless, self-hosted analytics only — no tracking pixels, no third-party scripts. demand data stays with each work privately; we never publish "most-wanted" lists. our terms, privacy policy, and DMCA process are drafted with counsel review in mind. author claims require platform-native proof; seal requests are verified before becoming permanent. we don't ask why — we only check it's really you.

what we don't do

  • no AI training on this data. never.
  • no stylometry, no authorship attribution, no writing-style similarity. banned completely.
  • no text sales, no licensing, no data licensing. not now, not ever.
  • no enumerating works without evidence. only tombstones and works with reader-backed evidence get crawlable pages. everything else is a search result linking out.

the numbers

every public number on this site is computed from the ledger. if a number cannot be recomputed from our records, it doesn't appear. the "gentle murmur" you see — "x stories found their way home this month" — is real because it has to be. invented numbers break trust; we don't use them.
