about
i built this because i kept losing things i loved. an AO3 link from 2013 that goes 404. a rec with the title half-remembered and the fandom completely wrong. a fandom you drifted away from, but there was that one fic you still think about sometimes.
the archive is good. the people who built it are good. but things get deleted. stories get locked. life happens. and fanfiction — these stories that matter to us — shouldn't just vanish without anyone noticing.
this site is a witness. it doesn't hold the words. it holds the catalog. it holds the evidence (short quotes, bounded and attributed). it holds the promise that if a story comes back, you'll know.
meet shamrock
shamrock says: hello. im here to help.
shamrock says: i can smell the story.
shamrock says: FOUND IT. this calls for a treat.
shamrock is my cat. orange, judgmental, supremely confident. they watch me code, they knock things off shelves, they sit on my keyboard. they're not a brand — they're a person-made-this thing. real cats say that better than stock photos ever could.
how it works
this site is Django running on a single box. the data comes from artifact drops — a structured file transfer from my home machine to production. i crawl at home with politeness and patience. the production site has no capability to reach AO3, Tumblr, or any fan platform. that separation is deliberate. a compromised box cannot produce the corpus.
search is done with vector embeddings (bge-small) and Qdrant. recall gaps are measured honestly and disclosed. the ledger is append-only and hash-chained — you could, if you were suspicious, walk it and verify everything i claim.
costs: about a bookshelf a month in server time, covered by donations plus my own money. no ads, no affiliates, nothing for sale.
thanks
to the archive and everyone who built it. to the authors whose stories matter enough to hunt down. to the people who posted recs across tumblr and reddit when the only way to find a fic was asking strangers on the internet. to the beta readers whose comments live in the evidence here and nowhere else.
and to shamrock, for staying on the shelf while i type this.
questions? feedback? found a dead link? email me. it may take a few days — i have a day job, and shamrock takes priority.
